ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Nikola Koeppl (b. 4th of July, 1984) is a Sydney based, Australian Artist. Graduating from the National Art School in 2004 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree majoring in Sculpture, Niki primarily works as a Watercolourist and Portrait Artist at her art studio in Matraville.
Painting in watercolours is the prominent medium in her current art making. Niki has been creating a body of work inspired by studies on the human form, exploring the structure and patterns of the body and expression while mastering the fluidity of watercolours.
Sculpting with clay, plaster casting and moulding has been a fundamental medium in Niki's previous work where this process has helped her art practice in the study of anatomy and creativity.
As a professional freelance artist and art educator, Niki is a sole trader running her own small business, NK Art. She teaches fine art classes to adults, young students and people with Disability as an NDIS Provider, either in small to large groups or private one-to-one tuition. Niki professionally runs various art demos and workshops that focus on a number of skills and techniques using a broad range of mediums from leading art supply brands. She receives commissions for portraits, pet portraits, caricatures and various custom illustration designs.
With an extensive knowledge of art materials and over 15+ years’ experience working in the art & craft industry, this has enabled Niki to explore a wide range of media in her work, allowing her to expand her repertoire and discover new ways to utilize mediums and surfaces.
Coming from an artistic family, creativity has always played an important role her entire life. Her father Kurt Koeppl, a talented prolific artist and well known within the Sydney Eastern Suburbs community, has been a major inspiration in Niki's artistic practice.
Dance as a style is the core influence and contributor to Niki’s art. Being a dancer from her younger years allows her to have a deeper relationship with her work. Most of her creations have evolved from studying an art and music major at Newtown High School of the Performing Arts then developing her art training at National Art School.
Niki continues to work towards progressing in her artistic career by exhibiting in a number of art exhibitions. She has won 1st Prize in the Figurative Category at the Randwick Art Society's 12th Annual Art Exhibition 2022, won Member's Choice Award at the Combined Art Societies of Sydney Awards 2019, People's Choice 1st Prize 2018 & 2nd in 2017 at her local Maroubra community art show, received several commended awards at various Art Society Exhibitions in Sydney. Her display of contemporary professional works are becoming highly regarded within the fine arts community.
Custom portraits, pet portraits and caricatures are a very popular subject which are available on commission. See the Services page for further details or contact page to enquire.
